2012 College Football expert predictions

It?s finally here. College Football!!!!!! The marquee matchup tonight is South Carolina at Vandy, but there are a handful of other games tomorrow. Tomorrow night we get Boise St. versus Michigan State, then on Saturday there?s a full slate of College Football.

What would a football season be without TVF sharing our predictions (as ridiculous as they may be). With the season kickoff just a few hours away, the esteemed writers here at TVF have made our picks. Some of our predictions will come to fruition, most of them will not. Some of them will garner laughter. We?ll just have to watch the games and see what happens. And without further ado, here are the picks that will surely all be wrong by Halloween.

The ACC has several picks for FSU, Va Tech, and Clemson. Pretty standard predictions by any means. The real question is whether or not FSU is truly back on a national level. I say yes, having them reach the BCS Title Game (come on, that schedule is a joke). Everyone else disagrees.

The Big 10, much like the ACC, has picks scattered. Michigan State, Michigan, and Wisconsin all garnered multiple votes. And for some reason, Nebraska earned one vote (really, cbh?). Almost everyone went with the favored Sooners in the Big 12, but give extra credit to Hawkeye and JP for their completely random picks. Pac 12 and SEC picks are as close to unanimous as the group got, heavily favoring USC and Alabama. Those two teams are also picked by most of us to reach the BCS Title game. It?s worthy to note that I?m the only writer who picked a school other than USC, Bama, or LSU to win the title. Maybe I?m just that dumb.

The fun predictions! Barkley?s the heavy favorite for the Heisman. No shock there. But patphish should be heavily criticized for picking a top 10 team as ?surprisingly good.? Georgia is the popular pick to suck this season, getting 3 picks. However, I question if that?s truly a surprise. Georgia screams mediocrity, pretty much every year. All that being said, feel free to share your own predictions or mock ours in the comments.

The reality, the rapid mobile internet usage is expanding, that means a mobile friendly website gives your prospective customers a better user experience.

Yes, it means more and more of your customers are already using their smartphones and ready to buy, accessing the Internet via their mobile devices everyday?its a given, right?

Mobile friendly website?if you didn?t realise the facts, you probably can feel it in the pit of your stomach if your business is not mobile you?re losing customers to competitors with mobile websites. It?s as simple as that. Mobile websites are no longer an option?

mobile friendly website Mobile Friendly Website | Mobile Web Design

Mobile friendly website?the writing is on the wall, update or get left behind.

?

Mobile friendly website for local businesses can leverage consumers buying behaviour to place orders from their smartphone, take surveys, receive coupons, and be notified of upcoming events and announcements.

A mobile friendly website designed to increase traffic using a little creativity any local business can benefit from a mobile website.

For example a restaurant can notify consumers of the specials for the day or week or a department store can have a loyalty club harnessing the power of mobile smartphones.

A mobile website can also increase foot traffic. Many people search for a restaurant from their smart phone when they are in the area. Mobile friendly website informs consumers what you have and entices them to come to your business.

These are consumers you might not have without a mobile friendly website. Spontaneous people make decisions without planning.

By the time they get home and have access to Internet they?ve already forgotten what they wanted to look up where to get (fill in the blank here) and your business lost a customer.

Mobile friendly website provides your prospects and customer instant information where ever they are insuring a better user experience so people can navigate to your business.

If you already own a desktop website for your business, this is a great asset. Yet it can be hard to navigate on a mobile phone. Mobile friendly website are specifically designed for smart phones and mobile devices.

Eighty percent of people leave an Internet website which they find hard to navigate on their smart phones. Some flash based Internet websites are not even visible on mobile phones (iPhones).

The case for a mobile friendly website means consumers get to see your website on their mobile phone and are able to get the right important information such as your address or phone number.

Most phones don?t support flash and anything on your website that is flash content won?t be downloaded. Does your business need a mobile website?

Let?s be honest, only you can truly answer this question, right? ?The fact is, in this economy your business probably can?t afford to lose customers over something as stupid as their website not downloading to smartphones.

Now, what if you calculated the money left on the table from marketing campaigns which would get more customers?instead you are losing by not having a mobile website.

By the way, smart phone sales are not showing any signs of slowing down in the slightest because sales are eclipsing PCs in sales in leaps and bounds.

There are so many prospects and consumers owning a smart phone, it just makes plain sense a mobile?friendly?website is a must have business tool in today?s market.

You don?t want your customers going to your competition with their money because your Internet website was hard to navigate on their phone, right??People nowadays don?t have their smartphone more than an arms distance away.

You know their phones go with them to the bathroom, outside, and on vacations. The Internet enables instant access, which means consumers can search for local businesses from their phone.

Internet website takes a longtime to render or load to a mobile phone interface and it is hard work finding simple information such as directions to your business. Why not quit stalling and get serious about a mobile friendly website and increase your profits?today!

Marc McAndrews's Photos of Nevada's Legal Brothels - NYTimes.com

With sweaty palms, a heavy step and a stutter, Marc McAndrews entered a brothel in Elko, Nev., without much of a pitch or a plan. Facing the line of half-naked sex workers, he had to choose one and pose a question that made him blush.

Could he take some pictures?

He had never before set foot in a strip club, much less a brothel, and his first try at gaining access was unsuccessful. He told one of the young women that he was merely interested in taking photos for his work, that he wasn?t in pursuit of pleasure ? this was his job, after all ? and he was booted out.

This was a place with rules. Just because it was a brothel, didn?t mean that anything could happen.

Nevertheless, Mr. McAndrews visited the legal brothels in 11 Nevada counties over a period of five years. He was working on a project that became the book ?Nevada Rose,? which documents these brothels and their workers, owners and customers.

What he uncovered was a view of prostitution that didn?t adhere to culturally appointed preconceptions: of sex work as a living as humdrum as any other.

Mr. McAndrews, who grew up in Reading, Pa., had been drawn to stories of a strictly American stripe. The project that became ?Nevada Rose? emerged from a series of cross-country van trips, on which he sought to photograph different aspects of American life and culture ? mechanics, motel workers, truck stops, bikers, lots and landscapes.

Though the book, published last year by Umbrage, contains plenty of saucy photos, the themes are more prosaic than one might expect from a book about sex as industry, and they?re profoundly American. With ?Nevada Rose,? Mr. McAndrews presents a story about work, commerce, capitalism and community. Mr. McAndrews was as interested in the landscape, the spaces, the mundane, the untouchables and staff members ? as he was in the kinky and the taboo.

And, in seeking a straightforward approach to a subject that skirts the taboo, Mr. McAndrews found himself confronting misconceptions. ?I think it is hard for people to imagine a woman owning her own sexuality and being O.K. with something like this,? said Mr. McAndrews, 36. ?We?re taught and socialized to believe certain things about sexuality and women?s sexuality and prostitution in general.?

The problem, Mr. McAndrews explained, is that, broadly speaking, people tend to equate prostitution with illegal prostitution ? a grim world of exploitation, crime and desperation. His experience photographing these brothels presented a contrast ? the legal brothels of Nevada have relationships with community lawmakers, with health care professionals, and there are rules, values and protections in place. (For instance, Mr. McAndrews noted that there is a panic button in every room, and that in the accumulated years he spent in Nevada on the project, he said he only witnessed the alarm go off once ? when he nudged it with his gear.)

Though there were obstacles to his access at first, eventually word got around about his activities and intentions ? he would furnish Polaroids of his work to show what he was up to ? and they let him in, even assisting Mr. McAndrews with calls on his behalf to other brothels. He observed a close-knit community, a vibe that more resembled a chummy neighborhood bar than a fetid den of sin. He lived at these brothels, had breakfast with the workers and owners, and his work at times felt like a collaboration ? he would invite input from his subjects, asking the women to choose their outfits, working together to help them present themselves.

But, of course, these brothels mean business. They cater to markets, work to appeal to certain tastes, Mr. McAndrews said. There are ?country houses,? homey, simple and intended to make customers feel comfortable, and ?city houses,? with sleeker designs sporting more of a strip club aesthetic. When a brothel entertained the notion of a male prostitute in 2010, to broaden its customer base, the market spoke and said ?no.? (The first legal male prostitute, brought in to cater to the female demographic, quit the Shady Lady Ranch in Beatty, Nev., after five months and only 10 customers. And, apparently, there is no outspoken demand for gay prostitutes in Nevada.)

But it?s not a perfect system and concerns ? ethical, political, cultural, commercial ? abound. Last year, Harry Reid of Nevada, the United States Senate majority leader, called for a ban, and though legalized, with a degree of regulation (the law requires weekly cervical exams and monthly blood work, for example), these brothels ? from a commerce point of view ? present some contradictions. Coercive, shameful or liberating? Libertarian yet regulated?

For Mr. McAndrews, the topic was a historical aspect of American culture that had not yet been surveyed straightforwardly, without hand-wringing and finger-pointing. His task, as he understood it, was simple: present what?s there.

?At a certain point a lot of women wanted to be a part of it because they weren?t ashamed and they?re proud of the light being shown on what they are doing,? he said. ?I wasn?t glorifying. I wasn?t demonizing. I was just showing as it was. That was my intent, anyway.?

That project ended, and moving on, Mr. McAndrews has been photographing youth groups in uniforms as part of his effort to better understand how America socializes its children. He is interested in what signifies one as belonging to a particular group.

His next topic? Religion.

Government of Canada Announces Canada’s Ratification of 2010 IMF Quota and Governance Reforms

2011 was a busy, focused and successful one for our community. There are a number of reasons to say this and I figured important enough to number.

1. Unemployment numbers in our community dropped each and every month since January.

There are still more jobs to create and the recovery is a fragile one. No question however, that we are on the right track.

2. The Cairns Family Health and Biosciences Research Complex was built and is almost completed.

No longer is Brock the university up on the hill. The facility will boast almost 110,000 sq feet of Bioscience research, second to no other research facility or university in the country. It will in fact, rival the facility in place at the University of Florida. The link with the community and our local economy is through the incubator facility that will house small start up businesses. The true value of this investment is when we see the creation of manufacturing jobs through this facility. My close friend Jeff Cairns' dad Roy passed away in 2011.? One of his last significant commitments to his community was the Cairns' family investment and contribution to Brock. Roy had a feeling this is going to work and it's up to all of us to make sure we prove his feeling true.

3. Majority government on May 2nd of this year.

Yes of course, those who didn't vote Conservative may disagree with this from a partisan perspective, but truly what this country needed was a stable federal government for a number of years. We can all judge the results once we reach re-election time in 2015.

4. Completion of a number of economic stimulus projects in town.

The new parking garage, the Armenian community centre, the children's centre at the YMCA, the football/soccer facility at the 4-pad, a brand new airport, nGen technology and multi-media investments, to name a few, have helped bring our community into the modern era. They also created short and long term jobs that were sorely required.

5. St. Catharines/Niagara is at the forefront of the agenda in our nation's capital.

The direction we take as a government is inspired by and involves our community. In other words, we matter and we play a role. I have to compliment both Dean Allison and Justice Minister Rob Nicholson for being great spokespersons for our communities.

Turning to 2012, the economy and continuing to help create jobs will remain our community's most important focus. It's the responsibility of all of us local politicians at the federal, provincial, regional and municipal jurisdictions to work together and never lose sight of the fact that whatever we do must have a long term economic benefit to our city and our Niagara.

We've spent a ton, yes a ton, of taxpayers money in St. Catharines from all orders (levels) of government. All of those investments were made with the rebuilding of our local economy in mind. In other words, we aren't dreamers or creative folks any longer. We are now project managers who have to ensure that taxpayer's investments will do what we (politicians) said it would. In 2012 I'm focused on the results of these investments to ensure that the investors (taxpayers) get value for their hard earned dollars vis-?-vis property tax, regional tax, provincial tax and federal tax. Every one of us has to focus on providing the actual outcomes from each of these investments that prove they're delivering the results promised.

Heading into my 6th year as the MP for our city, I'm looking forward to playing my part and ensuring we do focus on our economy and continue to bring St. Catharines issues to Ottawa.

Vegan Like Me No. 17 | Jersey City Vegan

Vegan Like Me aims to profile fellow vegans, from all walks of life from everywhere in the world! We?ve all been beginners and I think its important for folks to hear people?s stories in order to motivate themselves to keep going. This feature is intended to do just that. If you are vegan and would like to participate, get in touch with me and I?ll be sure to send our questionnaire along to you.

Name:? Nicole Graziano

Nicole, vegan 3 and a half years

Where do you live?? Northampton, MA

How long have you been vegan? ??3 and a half years?

What inspired you to take on a plant-based (vegan/vegetarian) diet? ??I have been vegetarian since I was 8 years old.? As a kid, I simply thought it was ?really weird? to eat animals, so I stopped. ?My parents dealt with it just fine, and I was a healthy teenager. ?I was vegan for a short time in my early 20s as a result of being immersed in the NJ hardcore scene.? Truthfully, though-I didn?t fully understand the reasons for being vegan, so eventually I reverted back to eating dairy and eggs. ?Later, in my mid 30s, my boyfriend stumbled upon Colleen Patrick Goudreau?s Vegetarian Food for Thought podcast because we were very interested in veg. cooking, and we both listened. ?Little did I know that after listening to just three of these podcasts, my choices and diet would be forever changed.? I am embarrassed to admit that until listening to Colleen?s words, I had no idea that cows did not readily give milk and had to be impregnated in order to do so.? It was all I needed to hear, and I became vegan the very next day after hearing her speak the horrific truths of the dairy and egg industries.? My boyfriend also decided to become vegan just a few days later.? We?ve been much more at peace and healthier ever since!?

What do you love most about being vegan?? ?I was pleasantly surprised by the 15 pound weight loss I experienced after becoming vegan and have found that I don?t gain a pound on a vegan diet no matter what I eat.? This is fortunate, as I love vegan food.? I also feel that my vegan diet has halted the aging process for me.? I?m 38 and feel better and more energetic than I ever have before.? It just keeps getting better.? Also, as a food lover, I also really love scouting out vegan restaurants and recipes. ?But, what I most love about being vegan is knowing that I am doing my absolute best to ensure that no harm comes to any animals.? I feel much more at peace and in line with my belief system as a result of my food choices.?

What three items do you always have in your pantry?? ?Nutritional yeast is a must for us. ?I LOVED parmesan cheese before becoming vegan, and nutritional yeast mixed with nuts and sea salt is a fine substitute.? I also think that some wonderful sauces can be made with tahini and miso, and I make a delicious macaroni and cheese with these ingredients that could fool anyone.? Perhaps most importantly, we always have a bunch of fresh, local vegetables on hand as a result of our summer and winter farm shares.? We love coming up with new recipes for whatever we receive each week.?

What is your favorite vegan comfort food?? ?It?s hard to name just one, but I really do love pastas with creamy sauces.? We do wonders with nutritional yeast, fresh herbs, vegetable broth, white wine, and soy milk.? I?ve been enjoying quinoa pasta lately as a healthy alternative. ?I also really love making different nut cheeses.? They?re delicious!?

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about taking on a plant-based (vegan) diet?? ?I would tell them to go for it and explain that when I did, I never looked back, not even for a second.? It?s the best decision I have ever made, and I can smile every day knowing that I am doing what I can to help my health, animals, and the environment. ?I?d also tell them to visit a local farm sanctuary and find out what happens to animals whose bodies and secretions are used for food.? After educating themselves and meeting the animals, they?re most likely to go come to veganism naturally.?

Do you find anything difficult about being vegan?? ?I have never experienced any difficulty being vegan in terms of finding delicious, satisfying food.? I do tend to sometimes struggle though when friends and family know the truth about how animals are treated and still remain omnivores or vegetarians rather than vegan.? When this happens, I try to remember that it took me a long time to come to veganism, and I try my best to practice acceptance.? Thanksgiving is a tough holiday for me especially because I absolutely adore turkeys.? I got a chance to hang out with a few at Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary and was amazed and impressed by their personalities and gentleness.?

Any other comments you or words of wisdom you would like to add?? ?We also have two vegan dogs, as well an occassional foster dog who all seem very happy and healthy.?

I can totally relate to Nicole?s sentiments about Thanksgiving.? Over the course of this year, I have become very close with a turkey at WFAS named Beatrice? I am not looking forward to the holiday this year, particularly because I know how awesome these creatures are.? However, I am looking forward to celebrating them at the annual ThanksLiving?celebration at WFAS!? And that is what is important to me.? Tickets go on sale this weekend and they sell out like hotcakes!?

Recipe Makeover: Gluten-Free Pesto Fettuccine with Chicken ...

gluten-free-pasta

The end of the summer season brings many things?cooler weather, a change in produce, the start of school? and with all of that comes busier schedules. The crisp weather leaves us wanting warm, comforting dishes, but with jam-packed days it can often be difficult to get something like that on the table by dinner time.

That?s exactly why this week I took to the kitchen to recreate this warm, comforting Pesto Fettuccine with Chicken dish that not only tastes great, but comes together in less than 20 minutes. An added bonus? I made it gluten-free, and you?d never know the difference!

Whether you?re dealing with a food intolerance or just looking for something new to put on the dinner table, this meal is sure to please everyone at the table.

Follow the few simple substitutions below to be serving up a gluten-free pasta dish so satisfying you?ll have everyone begging for the recipe!

  • 1 pound fettuccine, linguine or spaghetti (In order to make this dish gluten-free, I used a brown rice-based fettuccine such as Tinkyada)
  • 1 tbsp. unsalted butter (To cut the cholesterol down slightly, I replaced butter with vegan, dairy-free butter spread, such as?Earth Balance)
  • 1 tbsp. vegetable oil (To further increase the heart healthy aspects of this dish, I replaced the vegetable oil with canola oil which is a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids)

This recipe was a definite crowd-pleaser. Not one person guessed that the entire dish was gluten free! The brown rice noodles served as a great substitute for the noodles in the original recipe, and I happily gobbled up my portion knowing there was a nice boost from some heart-healthy ingredients!

Israel court clears military in Rachel Corrie death

An Israeli court on Tuesday cleared the military of any responsibility for the death of US activist Rachel Corrie who was killed by an army bulldozer in 2003, rejecting a civil suit filed by the family.

The family said they were "deeply saddened and deeply troubled" by the verdict, with their lawyer vowing to press ahead with an appeal after a legal battle which has lasted nearly 30 months.

"I reached the conclusion that there was no negligence on the part of the bulldozer driver," said Judge Oded Gershon, reading out a summary of his verdict at Haifa District Court in northern Israel.

He said Corrie's death was the result of an accident, and that the 2003 military police investigation -- which found she had been killed by falling earth as a result of her own irresponsible behaviour -- had been properly conducted.

"The deceased put herself into a dangerous situation, she stood in front of a giant bulldozer in a place where the operator could not see her. She did not distance herself as a reasonable person would have done," he said.

"Her death is the result an accident she bought upon herself."

According to eyewitness accounts, the 23-year-old was killed by a military bulldozer in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip on March 16, 2003.

At the time, she was acting as a human shield with a group of pro-Palestinian activists from the International Solidarity Movement to prevent troops from demolishing a house.

The verdict echoed the findings of an internal investigation by the Israeli military which was concluded just four weeks after her death and cleared troops of any responsibility in the matter, saying the bulldozer crew could not see Corrie because she was behind a mound of rubble.

The Corries' lawyer Hussein Abu said the family would appeal to the Supreme Court.

"The verdict is based upon distorted facts and could have been written by the state's attorney," he told reporters as her father Craig stood by stony-faced, her mother Cindy looking heartbroken and close to tears, an AFP correspondent said.

Cindy Corrie said the family was "deeply saddened and deeply troubled" over the verdict.

"We believe that Rachel's death could and should have been avoided," said the white-haired American, her voice breaking with emotion. "We knew from the beginning that a civil suit would be an uphill battle."

Israel, she said, operated "a well-heeled system to protect the military."

"This was a bad day, not only for the family, but a bad day for human rights, for humanity, for the rule of law and for the country of Israel," she said.

Craig Corrie, a veteran of the Vietnam War, said it was clear from testimony of senior military officers that they believed troops could kill people in southern Gaza "with impunity."

"We've seen from the highest levels of the military that they thought they could kill people on that border with impunity," he said.

In March 2010, the family launched the civil action for negligence against the state of Israel and the defence ministry for a symbolic sum of $1, plus costs.

They had earlier tried to sue Caterpillar, the bulldozer's US manufacturers, for liability but the action failed.

In its 2003 ruling, the military said Corrie had been killed by falling earth and building materials as a result of her own negligence.

"The death of Ms. Corrie was not caused as a result of a direct action by the bulldozer or by its running her over, but by the falling of earth and building materials that was pushed by the bulldozer," it said at the time.

The army went on to accuse Corrie and other activists from the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) of "illegal and irresponsible behaviour" contributing to her death.

But activists who were with her at the time said she was visible to the driver.

According to an account published two days after her death by activist Tom Dale, who witnessed the incident from 10 metres away, Corrie was clearly visible.

"The bulldozer drove toward Rachel slowly, gathering earth in its scoop as it went. She knelt there, she did not move. The bulldozer reached her and she began to stand up, climbing onto the mound of earth. She appeared to be looking into the cockpit.

"They pushed Rachel, first beneath the scoop, then beneath the blade, then continued till her body was beneath the cockpit. They waited over her for a few seconds, before reversing. They reversed with the blade pressed down, so it scraped over her body a second time. Every second I believed they would stop but they never did."

Corrie was killed at the height of the second intifada, or uprising (2000-2005) and quickly became an symbol of foreign support for the Palestinian cause and the subject of a 2005 play based on her emails and diary.

5 smart personal financial planning tips for college students

Post image for 5 smart personal financial planning tips for college students

This is a guest post by Alicia, a specialist in financial blogging from Manchester. Apart from blogging, she does research on?payday loans. Follow her on twitter ?at?@financeport. If you want to guest post on this blog, check out the guidelines here.

The present breed of youngsters are known for their party oriented and care free lifestyle who are seldom bothered about their future and live in the present.
In order to gain interest of people around them, they spend money casually and fuel their desire of being popular. This ultimately results in low savings and loss of funds for their further education. The impact has to be highlighted for every college student so that they change such attitudes and follow the right path in planning their personal finance.

Here are five smart tips on how to do this,

Create a budget plan:?The basic thing that will be followed by every individual irrespective of their age group is designing a budget. Although it is an easy procedure to pen in all the financial considerations, many people fail in executing these plans. This is because the plan is not made in a realistic manner and is difficult to follow. Instead of facing the trouble later, it is better that you plan efficiently now.

Take advantage of student offers:?When you want to purchase something that may be stationary, any student related item or even clothes, you will find special offers and discounts that are available for students. Lookouts for these offers and take advantage of them as they will save you cash that can be utilized for some other necessities. And also if you shop in groups that result in bulk purchase then you can get additional discounts.

Adopt sharing culture:?One of the best advantages that you can make use of is sharing, that will benefit you in many ways. For example, if you need to purchase books that are necessary for your research and your budget supports in affording only few of them, then you can purchase all the books needed along with your classmates that can be shared both in cost and use. This way you will not only save money but also benefit yourself.

Early savings:?This is the right age where you can learn from your economic errors, as they are smaller and can be easily rectified by your parents and well-wishers. But once you become independent you may not be able to recover your loss, so start saving at these early stages. This should be frequent so that you get habituated to this culture that can be followed in future. And also you can utilize this cash in emergency requirements.

Avoid credit cards usage:?Some credit card companies offer credit cards for the youngsters who turn 18. This will be beneficial for them as they gain huge profits by fooling them easily, by?capitalizing?on their?naivete?in personal finance matters. In order to avoid such issues you have to stop using these credit cards. If you have used one in the past and have a debt on it, then you can clear it either from your savings or through payday loans. As payday loans are instant loans that can be availed even by student who has part time job. That said, as a student, it is advisable to avoid any kind of credit.

Small Business Customer Service Secrets | Simplifythis

    ?

The secret to long-term success as a small business is excellent customer service. While small businesses might not be able to compete on some levels with their larger competitors, the customer service of these smaller businesses drives customer loyalty. Customers love to receive exemplary service; small businesses who choose to deliver excellent customer service will earn repeat business and word-of-mouth advertising.

    Listen to the Customer
Employees must listen to their customers. Whether the customer is curious about a product or upset about the service he has received, employees must be trained to actively listen to the customer instead of reacting emotionally. Customers broadcast their needs and wants, even if they don?t always do so directly; an employee who has been trained to listen can pick out what these needs and wants are and better satisfy the customer.

    Always Follow Through
Customers remember promises. If an employee makes a promise to a customer, that promise should be made a priority of the business. Managers should encourage their employees to follow through on any commitments quickly and thoroughly. Even if the original request cannot be fulfilled, the employee should make a good-faith effort to fulfill the request.

Customers should be informed about an inability to fulfill a promise promptly and sympathetically. While no one likes to be disappointed, customers appreciate being told about setbacks so that they can make other arrangements. Businesses that follow through on customer requests demonstrate respect for the customer?s time.

    Deliver Service with a Smile
Customers respond to happy and cheerful employees. A smiling employee shows a customer that his business is valued and appreciated by the company. Grouchy employees signal that customers are unwanted and unwelcome.

The Relationship Does Not End with the Sale
Success in small business relies on cultivating productive relationships with customers. When appropriate, employees of small businesses should keep in touch with the customer and make sure that the customer is satisfied with his or her experience dealing with the business. Not only can businesses cultivate relationships by checking in with customers, they can also collect valuable feedback and improve their business practices.

    Practice Saying Yes
Employees should be given the freedom to say yes to customer requests. Managers will need to train their employees to use this freedom wisely, but customers love it when a business listens to and grants an unusual request.
