Alpine skiing in the Austrian Tyrol

Austria?s Tyrolean Alps is one of the most-visited tourist areas in the country. Located in the western part of the country, the Tyrol is home to the beautiful city of Innsbruck, former host of the Winter Olympics, plenty of outdoor recreation centres and some of the best alpine views in all of Europe.

Skiing in the Tyrolean Alps

The hiking and mountaineering opportunities in the Tyrol are considered the tops in Austria and even glacier trekking is available for the more athletic and daring holidaymaker. For many, skiing is the biggest draw to the region and travellers would be hard pressed to find better slopes or accommodation. Skiers of all levels ensure that Innsbruck and its many nearby ski areas rank high on the list of favourite winter sports destination.

Some of the largest ski areas in the world are located in the Tyrol, which has picturesque villages packed with three and four-star resort hotels and chalets. The locals are incredibly welcoming and hospitable, while the wide range of accommodation available will ensure weary holidaymakers have a warm fire and a comforting drink to enjoy after a busy day on the stunning ski slopes.
