Costa Phillippou gets big win as Tim Boetsch deals with rough night at UFC 155

Costa Philippou wasn't even supposed to be fighting at UFC 155. It was supposed to be Chris Weidman, Philippou's teammate, taking on Tim Boetsch. It was supposed to be a fight that decided a potential contender for Anderson Silva's bout. But in MMA, things don't always work out like they are supposed to, and Philippou walked away with a win at UFC 155.

Philippou stepped in to fight Boetsch after Weidman was injured in training camp. Boetsch took an early lead with clinch work and takedowns in the first round, but between rounds he talked about an injury that was bothering him. It got worse for Boetsch in the second round, as a large cut opened in his forehead and he was poked in the eye.

[Complete UFC 155 recap: Cain Velasquez mauls Junior dos Santos]

With his eye swelling and blood covering his face, Boetsch tried to deal with Philippou's striking. Boetsch attempted takedowns, but couldn't hold off Philippou, who finished the fight at 2:11 in the third round.

After the fight, Philippou sent this tweet that said it all.

Though he's now 12-2 and has five straight wins in the UFC, Philippou has flown under the radar among middleweights. It will be hard to ignore him after he took advantage of this opportunity at UFC 155.

Key Unlocks Energy Security for New Zealand's North Island

Prime Minister John Key officially opened the largest infrastructure project in New Zealand the week of 12/10, the North Island Grid overhead line upgrade.

The Prime Minister visited Pakuranga substation at the northern-most point of the project, where he met with engineers and managers from the companies involved in its construction.

BBUGL, a joint venture between Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions and UGL Limited which carries out work in Australasia, undertook the construction of a new overhead transmission line as part of the project, in alliance with Transpower, the state-owned company which owns and operates New Zealand?s national grid.

BBUGL began work on the line in 2010, and since then has constructed 186 km of new 400-kV overhead line, including the erection of 432 new transmission towers and installation of over 7,000 tons of conductor. The line includes several ?monopole? towers designed in partnership with the local council to fit with the topography of the area, reducing impact on rural settings. Standing at 65 m, these are the tallest transmission poles anywhere in New Zealand.

The project, which in addition to the new line also includes two new substations and underground cabling, will reinforce the electricity supply in New Zealand?s North Island. The population has more than doubled in this area since the last major work was carried out on the grid in the 1960s, putting increasing strain on infrastructure.

New Zealand Energy and Resources Minister Phil Heatley commented: ?The North Island Grid Upgrade Project has provided greater electricity supply security to the upper North Island and will ensure that as cities and communities grow our electricity infrastructure will be able to meet the increase in demand.?

The project is one of several important infrastructure schemes being undertaken by BBUGL in New Zealand and Australia. Global investment into electricity transmission expected to be worth ?380 billion between 2010 and 2020, as Neil Kirkby, Managing Director of Power Transmission at Balfour Beatty explains:

?There are exciting opportunities in the power transmission and distribution sectors across the globe, particularly in new and emerging markets. Balfour Beatty has a long history of operating in the power sector and our skills and capabilities allow us to deliver complex projects, such as the North Island Grid Upgrade, on a global basis.?

UGL?s Managing Director and CEO, Richard Leupen said:

?We are very pleased to have contributed to the delivery of this significant infrastructure project for New Zealand. The North Island Grid Upgrade demonstrates the depth of UGL?s expertise in delivering major essential infrastructure and our ability to provide innovative solutions to clients in the power sector across Australasia.?

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) ? Violence in Afghanistan fell in 2012, but more Afghan troops and police who now shoulder most of the combat were killed, according to statistics compiled by The Associated Press.

At the same time, insider killings by uniformed Afghans against their foreign allies rose dramatically, eroding confidence between the two sides at a crucial turning point in the war and when NATO troops and Afghan counterparts are in more intimate contact.

"The overall situation is improving," said a NATO spokesman, U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Lester T. Carroll. He singled out Afghan special forces as "surgically removing insurgent leaders from the battle space."

Gen. Mohammad Zahir Azimi, spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Defense, said Afghan forces were now charged with 80 percent of security missions and were less equipped to face the most lethal weapon of the militants ? roadside bombs.

"Our forces are out there in the battlefields and combat areas more than at any other time in the past," he said, citing reasons for the spike in casualties.

U.S. troop deaths, overall NATO fatalities and Afghan civilian deaths all dropped as insurgent attacks fell off in their traditional strongholds in the country's south and east. However, insurgent activity was up in the north and west, where the Taliban and other groups have been less active in the past, and overall levels of violence were higher than before a U.S. troop surge more than two years ago.

U.S. troop deaths declined overall from 404 last year to 295 as of Saturday. The Defense Department says 1,701 U.S. troops have been killed in action in Afghanistan since the U.S. invasion in 2001 until Dec. 26. Of those, 338 died from non-hostile causes. Some 18,154 were wounded.

A total of 394 foreign troops, including the Americans, were killed in 2012, down from 543 in 2011. The British, with the second-largest military presence, had 43 killed ? the second-highest toll among countries with forces in Afghanistan, by AP's count.

The AP keeps daily tallies of casualties and violent incidents across Afghanistan based on reports from NATO and Afghan officials. Most cannot be independently verified, and other incidents may never come to light. The statistics sometimes vary from official counts because of time lags, different criteria and other reasons.

Deaths from so-called insider attacks ? Afghan police and troops killing foreign allies ? surged to 61 in 45 attacks last year compared with 2011, when 35 coalition troops were killed in 21 attacks.

The number, provided by the NATO command, does not include the Dec. 24 killing of an American civilian adviser by a female member of the Afghan police because the investigation is ongoing.

The focus of NATO's mission has largely veered from the battlefield to training the Afghans ahead of a pullout of most troops by 2014. The U.S plans to maintain a residual force, the size of which is now being determined.

A NATO report that tracks violence in the country showed a rise this year compared with the period before the surge of U.S. troops into the country. But the levels were down from last year and a peak in the summer of 2010. Kabul and the country's second-largest city, Kandahar, saw a considerable drop in lethal attacks, but districts in Kandahar province remain among the most restive in Afghanistan.

Militant attacks, the report said, decreased countrywide by 7 percent through November compared with the same 11-month period last year. But they were up in the northern and western parts of the country, which previously had been among the most peaceful regions.

Although NATO officials frequently credit Afghan troops with successful unilateral operations, a recent U.S. congressional report noted that higher-level Afghan units still need vital air, logistics and other support from foreign forces.

More Afghan police and soldiers are dying in the conflict, according to numbers provided by the interior and defense ministries.

More than 1,050 Afghan troops died this year, substantially higher than last year, although the ministry could not provide the exact 2011 death toll.

Nearly 1,400 police died in the 10 months from March 21 to the end of the year, compared with about the same number for the 12 months beginning March 21, 2011. The Afghan government follows a calendar year starting March 21.

NATO says Afghan security forces have grown from 132,000 in March 2011 to 333,000 this month.

The AP tally showed that at least 822 Afghan civilians had been killed by the Taliban and other militants this year while another 119 died in NATO airstrikes and other operations. That was a decrease from last year, when 1,151 were killed by insurgents and 283 by NATO. Substantially smaller numbers perish when caught in crossfires.

The United Nations reported different casualty figures but also noted that civilian deaths had decreased, reversing a five-year trend of mounting civilian deaths. Its latest report says that during the first six months of the year, 1,145 civilians died in conflict-related violence, compared with 1,510 in the same period of 2011. The U.N. considers insurgent land mines and roadside bombs to be particularly deadly for civilians.

Close to 3,000 militants were reported to have been killed by coalition and Afghan forces this year, compared with more than 3,500 last year. The NATO command does not issue reports on the number of insurgents its troops have killed, and Afghan military figures, from which the AP compiles its data, cannot be independently verified.

Background to Malta
Malta is a Mediterranean Island with remains going back millennia to prehistoric times. UNESCO has placed six of the above ground prehistoric temples on the World Heritage List, some of which are thought to be the oldest free standing buildings in the world. The providential arrival of the Apostle St Paul around 60 AD, introduced Christianity to Malta, and was to help Malta become known as the island of Paul. The attractions of these sites, and the visits paid by visitors throughout time, have led some to describe Malta as the Central Mediterranean holy island. The Knights of the Order of St John tried their best to increase this religious interest in Malta, as they tried to create a pilgrimage route to Malta, by supporting the creation of the cult of St Paul. Today, there are many sites, traditions and legends that are connected with this cult.

The Maltese islands were home to the Religious Military Order of St John (now better known as the Sovereign Military Order of Malta) from 1530 to 1798, and this led to an increase in religious manifestations, especially during the Baroque period. Today, the many parish churches are lavishly decorated, well kept, and a good portion of parishioners are highly involved in the organisation of the annual feast to their patron saint.

The islands of Malta are a veritable showcase of religious traditions.

SPOKANE, Wash. - The free line can be a team's savior or nemesis, for the Gonzaga University women's basketball team it was the later. The Bulldogs sank just 3-of-10 in the final six minutes and missed the front end of three one-and-ones in the final 3:22 of a four point game and ultimately fell to Washington State University 57-51 Saturday at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

Gonzaga had every chance down the stretch to take the lead but couldn't make the crucial free throws while Washington State did.

With the Cougars holding the 52-48 advantage at 3:22 after two made free throws by Mariah Cooks, redshirt freshman Shaniqua Nilles was fouled and sent to the line for the bonus. Nilles unfortunately missed the front end and the Cougars grabbed the defensive rebound.

Both teams missed their next two field goal opportunities, including a jumper by WSU's Tia Presley. Junior Haiden Palmer came down with the defensive rebound on Presley's shot and was fouled one second later but the guard, who was 3-of-6 before stepping up to the free throw line once again, missed the front end of the one-and-one like Nilles.

Washington State couldn't extend its lead though, missing yet another jumper which resulted in sophomore Sunny Greinacher bringing down the rebound and getting fouled with 1:52 left in the game. This time the Zags were in the double-bonus but Greinacher missed both shots.

The dagger came 1:13 later when WSU's Lia Galdeira drained a 3-pointer with the shot clock running down to extend the visiting team's lead to 55-48 with 40 ticks left in the game.

Sophomore Keani Albanez was able to hit a 3-pointer of her own with 22 seconds left to cut the lead back to four but two made free throws by Galdeira closed the door on any hope of the Zags making a comeback.

"They [WSU] gave us every chance to stay in the game," explained Gonzaga head coach Kelly Graves. "Ultimately we went 7-of-17 from the free throw line. If we make four of the six in a row that we missed there at the end and we lead. It was one of those games where the team that made the fewest mistakes was going to win. Unfortunately we made the most mistakes."

The first half was owned by Gonzaga as it built a nine point lead six minutes into the contest and held a 14-point advantage - 26-12 - with 5:57 remaining before intermission. The Bulldogs went into the locker room with the 32-28 lead and was led by both Palmer and redshirt freshman Shelby Cheslek who tallied eight points each.

Washington State opened the final 20 minutes on a 14-5 run and captured its first lead of the game - one it would not relinquish - since holding a 4-2 edge at the 18:44 mark of the first half on a 3-pointer by Sage Romberg which put the score at 40-37 with 14:00 left in the contest.

The closest Gonzaga got to the lead after Romberg's three was two points on three different occasions, the last coming at the 3:43 mark when Greinacher drained a jumper to put the score at 50-48.

The Bulldogs, who dropped to 10-4 on the year, were led by Palmer with 13 points. Greinacher added eight points and had a game and career-high 10 rebounds.

Washington State (4-7) was led by both Presley and Cooks with 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Gonzaga now focuses its attention on West Coast Conference action. The Bulldogs open league play Thursday hosting the University of San Diego at 6 p.m.

(AP) ? Investigators on Sunday examined flight recorders and other evidence to try to determine the cause of the airliner crash in Moscow that killed five people, an official said.

The Tu-204 belonging to Russian airline Red Wings was carrying eight people, all of them crew members, when it careered off the runway Saturday while landing at Moscow's Vnukovo Airport. It went partly into an adjacent highway, broke into pieces and caught fire.

Four people were pronounced dead soon after the crash and the airline said on its Twitter account that a fifth, a flight attendant, died Sunday. Those who died Saturday were the pilot, co-pilot, flight engineer and another attendant, Red Wings said.

The survivors were reported in critical or serious condition in Moscow hospitals.

Vladimir Markin, a spokesman for Russia's main investigative agency, was quoted by Russian news agencies saying the data recorders were being examined, along with fuel samples. In addition, he said flight documents for the plane have been taken from the airline for examination.

Firm wins contract to feed 17,000 troops in Africa

Firm wins contract to feed 17,000 troops in Africa

HAMPSHIRE freight forwarding company Regional Express has won a long-term contract to send food to feed over 17,000 peacekeeping troops in Africa.

It has been awarded by Vestey Foods of Petersfield and will run for several years.

?It is our biggest single contract and a great boost for us in our first year of trading,?

said Regional Express managing director Eric Buggy.

The aid is being transported by sea and air to Mombasa in Kenya and then onwards to troubled Somalia by a major international aid agency.

The foodstuffs moved so far by Regional Express include:

  • 40 tonnes of ice cream
  • 100 tonnes of beef stew
  • 20 tonnes of yoghurt
  • 45 tonnes of frozen chicken and turkey
  • 120 tonnes of fruit juice
  • 26 tonnes of salt
  • 374,000 chicken eggs

Around 40 per cent of the food is transported from the UK to Africa and the rest from other countries such as Turkey, the Netherlands and Poland in what is called crosstrading.

?We move most of the aid by sea but we send it by air if there?s more urgency,? said Eric, who established Regional Express with his business partner, sales director Geoff Evans.

The company began trading in May from the Basepoint Business Park at Romsey and expects turnover in excess of ?900,000 in its first year.

?To start up in a recession and get that kind of result in the first 12 months is not bad going,? said Eric.

A spokesman for Vestey Foods said: ?We chose Regional Express because we know we can trust them 100 per cent.

?They always do what they promise and then more. They are an excellent partner in what is a hugely important international contract.?

Arizona St. beats Navy 62-28 in Fight Hunger Bowl

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? Taylor Kelly, Marion Grice and the rest of the Arizona State offense put an emphatic finish on coach Todd Graham's successful first season with the Sun Devils.

Kelly threw four touchdown passes and ran for a fifth score to lead Arizona State to its first bowl win in seven years, a 62-28 victory over Navy in the Fight Hunger Bowl on Saturday.

Offensive MVP Marion Grice ran for 159 yards and two touchdowns for the Sun Devils (8-5), who used their fast-paced spread offense to score touchdowns on their first nine possessions.

"Our guys came to play today and dominated," Graham said. "I'm proud of them."

The Sun Devils won their most games since 2007 and won a bowl for the first time since the 2005 Insight Bowl against Rutgers. They also capped their season by beating rival Arizona and winning a bowl, a feat they had accomplished just once in the past 33 seasons.

"This win means a lot ? 1978 is a long time," said Rashad Ross, who caught three touchdown passes. "I'm just glad to be on this team, the team that finally did it: Beat U of A and then go on and win a bowl game."

The Midshipmen (8-5) have lost five of their last six bowl games. Among the few highlights for Navy were Keenan Reynolds' 3-yard TD pass to Matt Aiken in the first half and a 95-yard kickoff return for a score by Gee Gee Greene in the third quarter.

Rashad Ross, who grew up in nearby Vallejo, started and ended the first-half outburst with touchdown receptions. His 16-yard catch from Kelly capped a 75-yard game-opening drive and he got behind the Navy defense for a 52-yard score in the final minute of the half to make it 34-7. Ross then caught a 50-yard TD pass on Arizona State's first drive of the second half to make it 41-7.

Grice, playing with a heavy heart after his brother was murdered last week in Houston, scored on a 10-yard run in the first quarter and a 39-yarder in the third. He had 19 touchdowns this season, with 11 coming on the ground.

"We opened our arms out for Marion," Kelly said. "We're all with him. He's in our prayers and our family. He's having a hard time in the locker room or he'd be out here. He's all into this program. He wanted to come out and play for his brother and his family and also our brothers."

Much of the talk leading up to the game was how Arizona State would handle Navy's unique triple-option offense. It turned out that the Midshipmen had much more trouble with the Sun Devils' spread, giving up 648 yards.

"We couldn't stop them," linebacker Brye French said. "Everything that they would try, they just dominated us in basically every aspect of the game. It was very frustrating but you have to give them credit. They had a great game plan. They executed on everything. They had the deep ball, they had the run, they had the short pass. They had a great game plan and we just couldn't stop them."

Arizona State had seven touchdown drives of at least 60 yards in the first three quarters and had just three third-down plays in that span as Kelly easily picked apart the defense. The longest drive took just 2:43 and one of the quickest came at the end of the half when the Sun Devils went 80 yards in two plays covering 19 seconds after Nick Sloan missed a 33-yard field goal for Navy.

Kelly finished 17 for 19 for 268 yards, ending the season completing a school-record 67.1 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 81 yards, scoring on a 1-yard run that made it 21-0.

The Midshipmen had a few opportunities to keep the game close on offense in the first half but Greene was unable to hold onto a pass in the end zone on fourth-and-7 from the 31 in the first quarter and Reynolds lost 3 yards on a third-and-1 keeper from the 8 before Sloan's missed field goal.

"We kind of shot ourselves in the foot a couple times when we couldn't score," Reynolds said. "We could have put ourselves in the game ... but if you don't score points you don't win the game, no matter what goes on on the opposite side of the football."

Sen. John McCain, a former Navy fighter pilot who represents Arizona in Congress, handled the pregame toss. Instead of using a coin, the game sponsored by Kraft uses an Oreo, with one side being a chocolate cookie and the other vanilla.

Before that, Pat Tillman Sr. presented Sun Devils defensive tackle Will Sutton the Pac-12 defensive player of the year award named after his son, the former ASU star who died as an Army ranger in Afghanistan.

Sutton had 2 1/2 sacks to win defensive player of the game as the Sun Devils kept Navy grounded until the reserves took over on defense in the fourth quarter.

"I hope we never play that triple option again," Sutton said. "We handled it real well. We've been practicing about a month for this game. In due time, we were going to get it down. We did and we came and had a good game."

Argentina asking court to revert order on debt holdouts

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina ? Argentina is asking a US appeals court to reverse an order for the country to pay $1.33 billion to "holdout" creditors who refused to join two swaps for the country's defaulted debt.

Argentine government lawyers said in papers filed late Friday that the order violates the country's sovereignty. The lawyers said the order also threatens service on at least $24 billion of the county's restructured sovereign debt, impairs the rights of third parties and puts global debt markets at risk.

"The Amended Injunctions have no basis in law, are inequitable, and threaten to wreak havoc on countless innocent third parties, which have already suffered losses due to the plunge in their bonds' value provoked by the insecurity that the Amended Injunctions have created in the market for Argentina's New York law-governed bonds," the briefing said.

"This harm to private and sovereign creditors, as well as to New York law and New York as a place to do business, will only grow if the Amended Injunctions are affirmed. "

The US 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in New York ordered the country on Oct. 26 to pay the holdouts an equal amount whenever it makes payments on other debt that has been restructured since the country's economic collapse 11 years ago.

It agreed with US District Judge Thomas Griesa, who ruled that with more than $40 billion in foreign reserves, Argentina can afford to pay. The ruling gave Argentina a difficult choice: pay all bondholders equally, or pay none of them and risk going into default.

The court then returned the case to Griesa who ordered Argentina to pay the $1.33 billion into escrow for holders of its defaulted debt and banned banks and other third parties from intervening. Griesa based his ruling on the principle of "pari passu," or equal footing, which says debtors can't pick and choose between creditors.

President Cristina Fernandez called Griesa's ruling "judicial colonialism," and Argentina sidestepped the impending economic chaos when the order was suspended by the appeals court on Nov. 28.

But just the threat of the payment deadline set by Griesa had harsh outcomes. In the week after he issued his order, the cost of maintaining Argentina's overall debt soared in trading on U.S. and European bond markets and the cost of insuring those debts spiked.

"A court can arguably enjoin a foreign state from engaging in a commercial activity within the United States. But it cannot issue an order to force or preclude a foreign sovereign to act or not act within the limits of that sovereign's own territory," Argentina's brief said.

Chicago registers its 500th homicide of 2012 ? the highest number since 2008

Public-housing and school policies, gang activity, access to guns, and budget cuts for social programs have all been cited as factors in Chicago?s homicide rate.

By Mark Guarino,?Staff writer / December 29, 2012

Young men walk past the barred window of a business in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood on Chicago's South Side. The violence in 2012 ? 500 homicides in the city so far ? has gripped a handful of neighborhoods, including this one.

Rahm Emanuel?s first full year as Chicago mayor ends on a tragic note: The city marked its 500th homicide Thursday evening, making 2012 the deadliest year in the city since 2008.

Overall, Chicago homicides are at a historic low compared to decades past ? 928 in 1991, for example. But the last time Chicago homicides topped 500 was in 2008, when the number was 513. After that, murders had been falling. In 2011, there were 433 homicides.

Why homicide rates trend up or down is not easily explained by a single year, and it most certainly requires examining a series of complex factors including systemic unemployment, economic disenfranchisement, easy access to weapons, and ? specifically in Chicago ? the dismantling of public housing that started two decades ago and has coincided with the closings of public schools in distressed neighborhoods.

?The public-housing and school policies did a lot to undermine the fabric of marginalized communities on the South and West Sides of Chicago. That unraveling of the fabric continues to drive the desperation, the depression, the self-medication that contributes to a lot of this violence,? says Lance Williams, assistant director of the Jacob C. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago.

2012 enters the record books. Were you paying attention? A news quiz.

School closings in impoverished neighborhoods and the increased push for privately operated charter schools became a major issue of contention during the public-teacher strike in September. The Emanuel administration has long said that while facing a ballooning budget deficit, it can?t afford to operate so many schools, especially those where student populations are dwindling.

Homicides in Chicago attracted national media attention early this summer when 7-year-old Heaven Sutton became the city?s 251st fatality, killed by a random bullet while operating her front-lawn candy stand on the city?s West Side. Mayor Emanuel and police superintendent Garry McCarthy blamed the growing violence on neighborhood gang factions, which they say are responsible for 80 percent of the shootings.

Gang factions are small groups that have splintered from the monolithic, often historic, crime organizations that date back decades. As many as 600 factions exist today, the Chicago Police Department says. Moreover, Chicago has surpassed Los Angeles in total gang membership and activity, crime experts say.

Did Bradley Cooper & Zoe Saldana get secretly - Celebitchy

Bradley Cooper

Here?s a few uneventful photos of Bradley Cooper all by his lonesome at the Silver Linings Playbook in Berlin last week. Poor guy can?t even work up his usual blazingly white, serial-killer smile for the cameras. Perhaps Bradley had just suffered through an argument with producer Harvey Weinstein, who was upset that Jennifer Lawrence was not in attendance because somebody ? anybody ? needed to wear some damn Marchesa for this event. Or perhaps Bradley was missing his lady (and The Words co-star), Zoe Saldana, far too much for, uh, words?

Bradley Cooper

If the tabloids have their way, then a lack of Zoe was precisely the reason Bradley looked down in the dumps. You know, I?ve never understood them as a couple at all. They don?t really look happy together, and I (like many of you) have just assumed that this was merely a convenient showbiz romance that would run its course the next time Bradley needed to promote a new romantic comedy with a mutually single co-star (not Jennifer Lawrence, who is blessedly taken). But wait! The Enquirer is running with a story that says not only are Bradley and Zoe alive and well together, but they?ve also just become newly engaged. This, to quote Anthony Michael Hall in Sixteen Candles, is getting good:

Bradley Cooper Zoe Saldana

The second time?s a charm for Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana ? friends say the reunited couple are back on, better than ever and planning to tie the knot!

?Bradley is telling friends he?s not going to let Zoe slip away this time,? said a close source. ?Having lost her once, Bradley is readly to seal the deal on the relationship.

The couple first met on the set of the romantic drama The Words after 37-year-old Bradley?s high-profile romances with Renee Zellweger, Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Aniston fizzled. They dated for three months before parting ways in March 2012. But by September, the two had reunited, and Bradley proposed to Zoe, 34, a few weeks ago ? and she said yes! Bradley?s now telling pals he?s hoping the wedding bells will ring in late spring or early summer in his hometown of Philadelphia.

Though the Enquirer reported in May 2012 that Bradley?s mom was wrecking her son?s love life with her medding, the source says she?s stopped butting in ? and started helping. It turns out she?s the one who actually convinced Bradley to propose! ?Gloria world overtime to make it clear to Zoe that Bradley is a changed man and ready to commit,? maintained the source.

?Gloria has been pestering Bradley that she?s desperate to be a grandmother. Zoe won major brownie points with Gloria when she promised that she?d start trying to get pregnant just as soon as Bradley proposed. That set the wheels in motion.?

Playing cupid isn?t the extent of Gloria?s involvement ? Bradley?s been so busy lately he also sent her out shopping for the engagement ring, say sources.

?Now Gloria and Zoe are bonding over planning the ceremony,? added the source. ?Zoe can?t wait to be Bradley?s bride.?

[From Enquirer, print edition, January 7, 2012]

Of course, we are free to question the motivations at hand with Bradley?s camp allegedly leaking this engagement story. Although I do laugh at the idea of his past ?romances? with Jennifer Lopez (they went on one date together ) and Jennifer Aniston (she she allegedly pursued him) being a relevant part of this tale, but whatever. Is this a genuine romance and a case of true love forever, or is Bradley merely campaigning for the Best Lead Actor Oscar in his own special way?

Kicking Off 2013 With Better Online Marketing | Simple SEO Group

Towards the end of the year and beginning of the new year, nearly everyone makes some sort of new years resolution. ?And for many businesses, that resolution is to be smarter in how they do business and more specifically be smarter about their marketing strategy to drive new business in the doors.

However, many businesses are still stuck in 2003, and haven?t quite realized we?re now closing in on 2013. ?This means they?re using outdated marketing strategies and tactics to position their business, when they should be jumping onto the internet to take advantage of more cost effective, result driven marketing campaigns. ?Whether SEO, PPC, social, or email, online marketing generally offers a better ROI and more detailed tracking than traditional marketing means. ?Here?s five things your business should be doing to kick off 2013 with a better marketing strategy:

Start By Determining What Does/Doesn?t Work

SEO doesn?t work for every business much like the yellow pages doesn?t work for every business, so take a step back to evaluate what does and doesn?t work for your business. ?Are you investing $10,000 into print ads but only seeing $5,000 in trackable returns? ?This might be a strong sign you should consider moving that money elsewhere, possibly into SEO, PPC, or a combination of the two.

Likewise it?s important to determine what does work for your company and allocate more resources accordingly. ?Are you seeing a 200% ROI through your PPC campaign? ?If so you may want to scale things up and see if you can continue to see that same ROI if you double, triple, or further increase your budget.

Develop A Strategy To Carry You Through The Year

Planning is extremely important in marketing. ?We often get clients who tell us their busiest time of the year is a certain month, but they tell us 2 days before that month begins which leaves us little time to get them positioned accordingly in search engines, setup new PPC campaigns, or build out an email marketing campaign. ?Make sure you plan at least 6 months in advance for your busiest, slowest, and most important times of the year so your marketing strategy can work to its fullest potential and carry you through that time period.

Track ROI, Not Cost

This perhaps is the most important and especially applies to small businesses and newer businesses. ?I?m always asked ?how much will this cost me? which really isn?t the right way to approach any sort of marketing decision (or business decision for that matter). ?Rather the question should be ?What kind of return on investment (ROI) will I see from that??.

For example, would you rather spend $500/month on SEO and see a $500/month ROI (100%) or would you rather spend $2,500/month on SEO and see a $5,000/month ROI (200%)? ?It really doesn?t come down to how much you?re spending, but rather comes down to how will what you spend generate new business and how much will it generate? ?Keep that in mind not just with your marketing decisions in 2013 but also with any type of business decision.

Stay Ahead Of The Curve

Do you feel like your business is years behind the trends or always behind the curve? ?It?s difficult to stay ahead of the curve as the internet allows the world, both online and offline, to change at an extremely rapid pace. ?However make sure you?re at least keeping up with the latest trends in marketing. ?Do you have regularly updated profiles on major social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and others? ?Are you making sure your website?s content is in lines with Google?s Panda and Penguin updates? ?Is your email marketing campaign following the latest best practices and laws to get the best ROI possible?

It?s important to keep up with all the latest developments and trends and to make sure your in-house marketing team or contracted marketing firm is able to assist. ?We like to take the new year to meet with all our clients to inform them of changes we see in trends and any other important updates that they should be aware of as we roll into a new calendar year.

Act On Your Plans

This is perhaps one of the most important, but many businesses have grand ideas of how to market their business but fail to act. ?We get new leads all the time from people who then take months of years to get the ball rolling with online marketing, all the while missing out on thousands upon thousands of dollars in potential new revenues.

It?s important now more than ever to be quick and concise with marketing and act on your plans, because if you don?t by next year they may be a thing of the past.

Any small business needs good marketing to be successful and competitive, so make sure your business is well positioned in 2013 to be the best it possibly can be!

How Do I Set Up an LLC With out a Attorney?

Restricted Liability Businesses (LLC) are business entities that got their begin in 1977 and are regarded as to match someplace in between sole proprietors/partnerships, and totally incorporated Businesses. Current to fill the gap in between firms and sole proprietors LLCs can aid to segment private and business assets and liabilities although at the identical time preserving a simplified tax structure. An LLC is not firms but is a business structure to operate like a corporation.

Liability

An LLC is in itself its personal legal entity so extended as it is treated as a single. The LLC can assume obligations of debt. In other words the LLC, not the members, hold a loan and the liabilities that go along with it. If nonetheless the members of an LLC use the entity as their private bank or for individual matters it is achievable that the LLC will not be recognized as a separate entity if a lawsuit is filed.

Taxes

As far as taxes go LLCs are regarded as by the IRS as pass-by means of entities. This implies revenue passes by means of the business and goes straight to the LLC members just as they would with a sole proprietorship or partnership. These income or losses are filed on each and every private?s tax return. A caveat to this is that LLCs can be taxed as a corporation if the members elect to do so. So, if treated appropriately an LLC can shield its members from the liabilities of a corporation With out assuming the tax overhead a accurate incorporation need to sustain.

There?s A Difference Between Private And Personal

There?s a real difference between something being private and something being personal. And that, as the aforementioned incident highlights, is a notion that a lot of people — including Randi Zuckerberg — have forgotten, online and off. What I mean by this is that just because you post something online, doesn?t mean it?s meant for public consumption. Yes, this all sounds very conflated, and yes, Facebook privacy controls are about as easy to understand as left-handed scissors for a right-handed person. However, somewhere in this slow news big news cycle, publications started to tell the story that said Facebook CEO’s sister clearly didn’t understand Facebook’s privacy controls.
