by Matt Porter

Suncoast introduced new head coach Jim Clark to its football team Thursday.

Clark was a longtime assistant under Benjamin coach Ron Ream, including stints at both offensive and defensive coordinators. A 1995 graduate of Benjamin, Clark taught there for more than a decade and was promoted to Upper School Dean of Students in 2010.

In December, former Glades Central coach Jessie Hester resigned after one season at Suncoast. The Chargers finished 4-6, missing the playoffs and tying for third in a five-team district. They averaged 13.8 points a game on offense, third-worst among area large schools.

Micah Mays, who coached in 2010, went 2-8 but reached the regional quarterfinals, where his Chargers lost to Plantation-American Heritage.

Last year?s team included Florida International signee Davison Colimon and Stony Brook signee Abiade Granger in the secondary.

With Clark?s hire at Suncoast, Spanish River is the only area school who has not hired a football coach.
