What the jobs report reveals about US population

U.S. employers added 163,000 jobs in July after three weak months of hiring. The best job growth since February could signal the economy may shake off a midyear slump.

Still, recent job gains weren't enough to bring down the unemployment rate, which rose to 8.3 percent from 8.2 percent in June.
