Vegan Hangover Food Eating Hungover Vegan Food ... - Blisstree

There?s this idea that vegans are always super healthy in everything they do. But vegans like to get crunk as much as anyone else?they go out, they drink, and they have hangovers they need to cure with something other than the standard bacon n? eggs breakfast. We?re here to help plant-eaters deal with this weekend?s inevitable St. Paddy?s Day hangovers with a list of meat-and-dairy-free hangover eating ideas. You know, just in case you?ve killed too many brain cells to actually decide what to eat for brunch.

Basically, there?s two schools of thought in regards to eating after imbibing. Eat the fried, greasy or carb-y stuff your body seems to be craving, or try to replenish with actually nutritious food. Here some suggestions for vegan hangover foods on both sides of the spectrum.

French Fries: As long as these are fried in non-animal oil, you?re good to go. Bonus: you?ll actually be able to eat something if you want to go out to the diner with the friends you partied with last night. See also: hash browns, tater tots, anything made with sweet potato, fried plantains.

Veggie Tacos:?Black or pinto bean tacos are filling and tasty, especially in a crunchy shell or with melty Daiya cheese in a small tortilla. Combine them with some kind of potato side dish to really fill yourself up. We recommend a nap afterwards.

Tofu Scramble: A pretty standard vegan breakfast takes on new significance after you?ve overindulged in beer or wine. Add some beans, salsa and wrap up in a tortilla for a vegan breakfast burrito.

Cheeseless Pizza: Refried beans, chopped veggies and avocado on a pizza crust or a tostada will taste good to your hangover. Wash down with lots of water or iced tea.

Soup: Whether it?s a heart veggie chili, vegetarian pho or a simple rice soup, a steamy bowl of soup always helps with a hangover (gives you more hydration, too).

Oatmeal With Banana: Oats have the perfect mix of dietary fiber and and carbohydrates necessary to combat a hangover. A big bowl of oatmeal will fill you up and the potassium in the banana can help with the hangover symptoms, too.

Vegans I know also swear by tempeh bacon, Indian carryout, sushi, or vegan mac-and-cheese for hangovers.

And on the healthier side of the spectrum, there?s:

Green Smoothies: Get some nutrients back in your body with a big old green smoothie. We recommend combining spinach or kale, banana, cinnamon, another fruit of your choice and the juice or non-dairy milk of your choice to get some goodness back in your body.

Coconut Water: This stuff is full of electrolytes and will hydrate you a lot faster (and more effectively) than regular old water. Seriously. It?s been proven!

Roasted Seaweed: SeaSnax makes a delicious, salty roasted seaweed snack that makes you feel like you?re eating chips, but with less than half the calories and none of the starch.

Ginger: Whether you try ginger tea, ginger candy or ginger broth, eating something with ginger will help quell your queasy stomach.

What do you eat when you?re hungover, vegans? Any cure-all recipes or food combos that ?you can share?
