HBT: Davis hits No. 36, on pace for 61 homers

It seems like Orioles first baseman Chris Davis homers on every day that ends in ?y?. This afternoon against Blue Jays starter Todd Redmond, Davis went deep for the 36th time this season and for the third consecutive game. The Orioles lost 7-3 despite the best efforts of Davis as starter Jason Hammel allowed six runs in six innings.

Davis is now on pace for 61 home runs over 162 games. 61 is an important number for him because he recently told ESPN?s Mike & Mike that he consider?s Roger Maris ? not Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, or Sammy Sosa ? the single-season home run record-holder. Maris hit 61 home runs in 1961 with the Yankees. Davis has received received unwarranted suspicion of performance-enhancing drug use recently and has had to go on record denying his use on more than one occasion.

After today?s game, Davis is now hitting .313 with 36 home runs and 89 RBI.
